A WARNING! The most essential ‘tackle’ for a fly fisherman is a pair of glasses to protect ones eyes for the fly/flies which circle around ones head. Many years ago a young friend of mine fished in a heavy wind at our local stream, and suddenly a gust send the fly into one of his eyes. Fortunately he could call attention from friends near to him – they cut the cast and drove him to the nearest hospital and from there to the eye-surgery at Aalborg. Before removing the – ‘Black Pennell’ from his eye they took pictures and moreover called the whole staff, so that they could see what had happened. Then in every textbook in eye surgery is mentioned this accident; but very few have seen it in reality. They did a very fine operation and he has only a tiny dot as remembrance on his Cornea. |
